Preview and Review: Playstation Allstars

I joined Playstation Plus (Review to Come) the other day so to my surprise I received a beta invite in my email a day later. I was super excited about this because I am super excited about this game. I loved Super Smash Brothers and hate the wii. I thought I was basically going to get SSBM for PS3. Hell this was going to be perfect for me.

The Glades: Season 3

The Glades - Season 3:  I am going to do a quick review of season 3, and I am going to try and it without a spoiler. I dont love this show, but I enjoy it enough. The show is a basic Cop procedural. Its a strangely simple show that has one thing going for it, strong characters. This show is similar to another show on the same station called Longmire (Expect the review later). Its a solid show though.

This season started with a long distant relationship and ended on a cliff hanger. I will say that I called the ending, but for some foolish reason I did not call the cliffhanger. I enjoyed the season for the most part. The acting was great and I love the little nerdy kid that works for the department. i did not like the addition of the new supervisor. She was a pointless character in the show. The entire season could have gone without her. I dont see this show going for too many more seasons, but I will enjoy it for as long as it is on. If you have seen the first season the second is now on netflix for your viewing. And this season was pretty good. Check it out.

Beer Review: Three Philosophers - Belgian Style Blend

Beer Review: Three Philosophers - Belgian Style Blend:
I want to start out by stating I am far from a regular beer reviewer. Basically I know what I like and I make my decisions solely based on that. My favorite usually is dark beer, but I enjoy a wheat and normal ales. I cant tell you about the color or density or whatever. But I will give my honest opinion about any beer i try. i took multiple pictures of this one because I planned on leaving a blogpost for this. Following you will receive a honest review and a couple of pictures. Thank you very much. Hopefully you will enjoy.

Breaking Bad Season 5: Ep 1-3

Breaking Bad Season 5: Ep. 1-3

Breaking Bad might easily be the best show on TV... possibly ever. I have never watched even a single episode of this show and not loved it. And the if you look at each season... My God what a great progression of each season. The show is amazing. I have been keeping up pretty well, but I have not been posting as much on this show.

White Collar: Season 4 Ep. 1-4

I have been keeping up with White Collar and I have fallen behind on my TV wrap-ups. It is one of my favorite shows on TV right now so I thought I would just put it into one short-ish blog post. I will also be doing this with Breaking Bad for the same reason. I really enjoy this show but I have some opinions about the first few episodes.

Torchlight: Quick Review

Torchlight: Quick Review

I bought Torchlight forever ago, I cant remember if it was on a sale or not... but i put 40 hours into this game between two characters. The other day after beating Saints row I decided to throw it back on to prepare myself for Torchlight 2. It has been a while since I had played and i honestly have to say that I forgot how much fun it was. The game is a blast. I originally thought it would be a good place holder until Diablo 3 came out, but after playing it, I decided to just get Torchlight 2 because I love this game.

Comic Book Wrap Up

SUPER COMIC WRAP UP!!!

This week I had a pretty interesting run of comics. I wasn't sure I was going to jam through so many, but I hit a great little run and destroyed a bunch. What you have to look forward to is a big marvel run and a pretty dark Ellis book. I have one other book to read a maybe a few on hold, but I have to start to reading some real books. Hopefully this will be the last comic book post for a few weeks, but I am super weak when it comes to comics. I love reading comics. Enjoy a quick review and maybe a small preview of what I want to read.

Movie Previews: August

I love going to the movies so I am going to hook you guys up with some previews of some movies that are coming out this month. August is looking great if you want to watch movies. Well if you want to watch a certain type of movie. I am planning on watching all of these in theaters this summer. I cant wait to check them out. There will probably be a lot of trailers and little words.

Restaurants: Lakewood Reviews

This week I discovered Yelp and we tried many restaurants that we had never eaten at before. I am excited to say that we had some great new experiences. We tried 3 new restaurants and was not disappointed even once. I will say that I usually dont eat out that much so i felt like I was going to die yesterday but it was totally worth it.

The Watch: Review

A quick review of "The Watch" a movie staring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade (Moss from IT crowd). When the movie was originally released or rather advertised it was called Neighborhood Watch until the shooting that happened. After that they did a quick rename and a very late campaign for the movie. I saw the first trailer about a month and a half ago online, and I was pretty excited. Then I saw a second trailer and heard a pretty negative review. This made me a little less then excited about it. Last night my girl, her sister, and I went to watch this movie. It was a pretty awesome experience.

Dark Knight Rises: Review

So I am going to do a quick review without spoiling anything and then after the break I will mention my problems with the movie. Basically, do not click read more if you have not seen the movie.

I really really enjoyed the movie, I thought it was a pretty amazing ending to a trilogy... well it would have been if it did not end with such an open door. The one thing that really bothered me about this movie was the ending. The entire movie was amazing, and hell even the ending wasn't even bad, its just not the ending I wanted.

Overall the movie was damn amazing. The action was great, the story was awesome, and the actors did an incredible job. I love how characters were eluded to rather than obviously named, what I mean is Catwoman was not once called catwoman... oh yeah and she has never been hotter to me Anne Hathway really wore that suit well. Plus she did a great job as Selina Kyle. Bane was great. The only thing that killed the overall experience was the speech sound track. It just seemed a little unbalanced, and there were moments that I literally could not understand what was being said. With that aside the movie was amazing, and i am super excited to have seen it. The night before I watched the 2 previous movies and forgot how much I enjoyed them. The series was damn amazing and I could not be happier with it. (Do not click read more if you have not seen the movie. SPOILERS AHEAD)

Saints Row: The Third - Review

I picked up Saints Row: The third during the summer camp Steam sale thing. It was only $13.00 and I had heard nothing but good things about this one and the previous game. So it was a must and was actually one of the only games I was really hoping to go on sale. I dont know if I can come up with the words to describe this game but I will try. After the break you will read my review and reaction to the game.

Comic Books This week: almost a fail.

This has been a pretty rough week for comics. I grabbed 4 new comics from the library and I have only finished one so far. I started reading two of them and just had to stop. I finished 1 and enjoyed ok, and the other is still just sitting there. And if that wasnt bad enough. I started one at home and quickly decided it was not worth my time. So out of five comics, I stopped reading 3, only mildly enjoyed 1, and have yet to start the final one. The plus is that this is all balanced out with the reading of the last 8 issues of Walking Dead, which is always enjoyable. I will make this one pretty quick but feel free to read still in case you were interested in any of these comics.

Girls post #2 Free pass list

Not too long ago I was hanging out with my girlfriend at her work. All the girls were in the office and they were creating their free pass list. A list of guys they would have sex with if they had a chance and would not get in trouble or feel bad about. Well I let them go on for a moment until I decided to make my list. I have recently updated this list and of course I would never have sex with any woman besides my soon to be wife, so I guess this could be my coolest girls I would love to date if I was not in a committed relationsihp.

Walking dead Comic 1-100

Issue 100 of the Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman just hit the shelves this last Tuesday and after finishing it off I thought it might be cool to do a full recap of the first 100 issues of the series. The cool thing will be that I can do this again if they end up hitting number 200 and so it could be kind of a on going thing. In this post I will touch on a couple of my favorite moments, a general overview and review of the series as it stands, maybe a couple critiques, and what I think they should do in the future to keep it fresh. I cant imagine doing this without some spoilers. So be warned I will be spoiling everything in this blog post.

Bad Ass: The movie

Bad ass is a movie staring Danny Trejo as an old Vietnam vet that basically kicks ass all over the place. The whole movie is based off a small 3 minute clip off of Youtube (video posted after the break) that features an old dude beating up some younger dude. The clip was a huge and blew up the internet for some time. The movie... well you will have to read about the movie.

TV Wrap up: Common law, Franklin and Bash, Burn Notice

This week in TV... I watched a bunch of TV this week. Most of everything I saw was actually pretty good. We already have way too many shows to watch on a weekly base and there are a couple more that are going to be added, with White Collar and Breaking Bad. I saw one other new show and if you check after read more you will see what I thought about it.

Walking Dead: The complete Season 2

I burned through season 1 of walking dead about a year ago on DVD. And this last week there was a marathon of Season 2 to get everyone excited about season 3 that airs in October. My girlfriend and I burned through this season in about 2 nights and watched the Talking dead to see a quick preview of season 3. I loved this season, there were a couple slow moments, but over all the season was great. After the break I will do a quick run down and review of the entire season with some pictures. I will keep the spoilers to a minimum, but there will be a handful of things that you will want to skip. I will try to post some kind of spoiler warning before it.

Music: The future

I listen to a lot of music, I mean not nearly as much as I listen to podcasts, but still I love music. The other day I was thinking about some of my favorite CD's and how much I am looking forward to the next ones. I am creating a list of my favorite music and what I would love to hear from their followup release.

Comic book wrap up

Hey Guys,

This might be the last comic book wrap up for a couple weeks. Maybe one more. I am planning on forcing myself to read a couple of books this summer. I will basically be switching gears a bit and moving to reading books for the next couple of weeks. I will give a preview of the books I plan on reading at the bottom of this list. This week I read some great comics, the Boys, Secret avengers, Hellboy, etc.

Girls: The difference between 16 and 30 year old Ricky

Growing up as a sheltered boy, I have always been kind of against the objectification of women, but I would be lying if I said I never looked at girls, especially famous ones and thought they were hot. So of course I have a list in my head of girls I use to love (not really love of course, but thought they were hot) and how I look at them now. So here it is, this might be my only girl post ever. So enjoy it.

Comic Books!! This week.

I read a lot of comic books, probably too many comic books really, but this is part of what makes me...well...me. I could use a single post to write about a single comic, but I kind of like the shotgun approach I am taking with TV shows. Plus those posts would be super short. Maybe with a specifically good comic or one that isnt part of a series or long run.

Black Light Retribution and other free fps games

There is a new trend happening in the video game world, I would like to think it probably started with the IOS and facebook games, like Farmville, Tiny Towers, etc. Or it could have started with all of the failed MMO's, who knows... I mean someone probably does, but I dont want to do the research, what really matters is that there are a lot of free to play games entering the game world right now. In the last couple months I have tried 3 different free first person shooters (FPS) and I am going to give my honest opinion of them.

This week in TV

TV this week.

It was a great week in Tv. A new Futurama, Longmire, Chopped, and so on. Plus I am going to throw a quick thought about a show I never watch, but thought I would give a shot because my girlfriend watched it.

Jeff who Lives at home: Review

 Jeff who lives at home

Synopsis: Dispatched from his basement room on an errand for his mother, slacker Jeff might discover his destiny (finally) when he spends the day with his brother as he tracks his possibly adulterous wife

This quirky indie film stars Jason Segal and Ed Helms. The story is very simple and follows a lot of the same tropes as most indie films, but like all movies in this genre there is always something special about the characters and how they interact. Like a Guy Ritchie movie there are multiple stories that all flow into one stories at the end. The movie is magical.

Prometheus Review

What can be said about this movie that has not already been said. Since this has become the punching bag for every reviewer and comedian, I wont try to top that. I will just give a quick honest opinion and post a funny video I saw on Youtube that sums up the movie for me very well. Before we go on I will say that the movie was very pretty, even though I saw it in 2d, and I have heard the 3d was very impressive.

Updated list of podcasts June 2012

I am a man that listens to a lot of podcasts. Frankly if I couldnt work would be much more boring. I love podcasts that are funny and revolve around something nerding or important in my life. My favorite stuff are video games and movie podcasts with a sprinkle of sports. Although most importantly is that they need to make me laugh in some small way. So here is my list of current podcasts as of June 2012.

TV Wrap up

So instead of writing one single post per show I have decided to write a quick wrap up post encompassing a quick blurb for each series. I might try to do something like this each week, but who knows. I have been pretty terrible with this so far, so we will see. Plus I need a much better name. TV dance party... TV show show... TV Review. I dont know I will think of something fun.
This week I caught up on a plethora of tv shows mostly stuff on the USA network and A&E. I will be talking about Longmire, The Glades, Burn Notice, Suits, etc. Some of these series are new to me and some are old friends, but I had some fun with most of them.

Sorry I have been gone.

So I guess anyone who has made a trip here in a while has realized I have been gone. Well I am going to take another stab at this. I got busy and distracted and the further I got out, the more and more difficult it made it for me to come back. So starting Sunday and at least once a week after that I will be spending some time on here. Ricky

DLC Quest: Review

I read about this game on Joystiq yesterday and watched the trailer. it looked pretty freaking awesome. So I decided to check it out last night. Its a $.99 game on xbox live indie arcade.

I bought the game last night and played it for about 1 hour until I started to fall asleep, this is not a reflection on the game as much as the fact that I fall asleep really early now. So this morning when i woke up I took a about another hour to finish it up. For $.99 that feels like a pretty great deal to me.

50/50: Review

The other day my girlfriend and I rented 50/50 from the Redbox. Coming into this movie my head space was all over the place; on one hand Joseph Gordan-Levitt is one of the greatest actors ever. On the other Seth Rogen is a very hit or miss actor. But the main concern was can you make a funny movie about cancer.

Well I will make this quick. The movie is pretty damn amazing. The acting is incredible. I mean Joseph is very believable as a cancer patient, you see all the levels of emotions and its very heart tugging. Seth Rogen was perfect as the best friend. The movie was really good. It did have its flaws and there were a couple times I looked down at the watch, but for a semi-fictional movie. it was pretty awesome. i would suggest this for almost anyone, but be prepared to tear up a little. Oh and apparently you can make a semi funny movie about cancer.

Mass Effect 2: Review

I know what you are thinking, what a current game. Well I always wanted to play Mass Effect and in fact I played part of the first one on Xbox when I had my old 40gig rig without HDMI. So I have been waiting for a Xbox 360 slim before I took another swing at it. And then one of my buddies told me number 1 was only ok and to skip it, so I found number 2 for $20.00 and decided to play through the game. After spending close to 50 hours playing the game and finally beating it I decided to do a quick post on it. Enjoy you lucky devils you.

To be honest I have never really been much of an RPG person before, don't get me wrong I have always wanted to and I have made many valiant efforts, I just could never stay in the game, but this is different, this is an action RPG. Oh and something else you may want to know about me is that in this last year my favorite game style has become the action/adventure game (Infamous 1, 2 and festival of blood, Assassins Creed, Batman). So this seemed right up my alley.

Alaskan: Black IPA

A friend from work bought me a couple Black IPA's so i could try them, recently I have fallen in love with these so she did her own taste test and wanted me to try it also. First sip was pretty good, its has the hoppy taste of an ipa with the good bold flavor of a dark beer. I am not positive its my favorite Black IPA but its a good solid taste. After about half way through I am not bored with the flavor, which is a good sign. I would definitely buy this again.

Final Thoughts: Good flavor, great color, but a little hoppy. Would definitely buy again though.

Counter Strike Global Offensive

I remember playing "Counter Strike" for the first time at my buddy Jason's house back in 8th or 9th grade. This game was revolutionary for me. It was my true introduction into computer and online gaming. Before this I had played some Doom, Wolfenstein 3d, and Duke Nukem, but this was different, this was playing against real people. Jason had a copy and for a while we were able to get it to play on both of his parents computers, but after that stopped working we would take turns playing. Little did I know this was a start of an addiction that would still haunt me after 15+ years.

DRM is the Devil.

There is not much I want to say about this. Basically I read an article on Gizmodo about alternate options to help stop Piracy that do not include DRM. Its an amazing article that mention some true alternatives that could help stop piracy. Now I have never been a fan of game piracy, minus some NES and SNES roms, but anything would be better then DRM. DRM is the worst thing to happen to gaming, not necessarily for me, but for people with limited or crappy internet. So go check out the article and I can only hope more game companies try other tactics rather then DRM.

Watchmen 2 first thoughts

Watchmen my easily be one of the greatest comics ever written, and best film adaptation. So the question has to be asked, should there be a Watchmen 2? More to the point should there be a watchmen 2 where the original creators are not even involved? IGN article

Now at this point I need specify that I suffer from terrible nerd rage. If the movie adaptation doesn't stick to the story I get mad (The Losers, Surrogates). If they do an unnecessary sequel or prequel (Watchmen 2?, Starwars, Indiana Jones and the horrible abortion of a film). Or if they try a money grab with a stupid original property (Battleship, Super Mario movie, Double Dragon, etc). Basically things that should bother no one, destroy me. So you have been warned, anything written after this sentence will probably be pointless and insane, but may at least be fun and informational.

Five Guy Burgers

Five Guys opened up in Lakewood. I have had Five Guys before so there is not much new to me, but I love this place. The line was long, but the food was great. The thing that makes this place amazing is that they make great burgers, no gimmicks, just a really well made burgers. If you have not had it before. Make the trip.

Beer: Lazy Boy Porter

The other day I was driving down I-5 and I saw a Lazy Boy Brewery truck drive by. At this point I realized that they were a local brewery and thought it was a shame that I had never tried it before. So here is a quick review. I bought the beer at my favorite store in Federal Way 99 bottles. The price was fair $6.00 (approx.) for a pint bottle. I love dark beers, so I grabbed the porter. First impression, beautiful color and great smell. I gave it a try and it wasn't bad, my big problem was the small after taste that followed after every drink. I cant explain the taste, it was bitter and malty. Either way I didn't enjoy the first couple sips. I kept drinking hoping the taste would become something I enjoyed. Truth is even by the half way point of the bottle I decided it was not for me, don't get me wrong I'm not a monster and I finished that pint.

Conclusion: My first impression was my final impression, the beginning taste isn't too bad, but there is a weird after taste I did not care for. This beer is probably amazing, just not for me.

Dwight Spin Off

A friend sent this link to me and I thought it was noteworthy. Apparently NBC is going to do a spin off show of "The Office" focused solely on the character of Dwight (Yahoo Full Story) and his Cousin Mose.
I don't want to judge before I see the final product, but this seems like a terrible idea. When I first read this story all I could think of were the miserable spinoffs of "Scrubs" and "Friends". Honestly how many people enjoyed "Joey"? The answer, "NO ONE". Don't get me wrong, I love the office and if any character that has a chance at their own show, Dwight is definitely the best pick, I mean hell he has his own story outside of the office, he has a funny side kick, and a great quirky personality, but he is only one small element of this amazing comedy collaboration. Is Jim funny? Yes of course, but do I want to see him at home pulling pranks on his Daughter? No. That same theory goes for anyone one character from that show, they are all amazing, they are all hilarious in their own ways, but I don't know if want to see a show focused on single character.

I guess when it comes down to it I will most likely watch the show, but with this season already be a little hit or miss, I really find it hard to believe that show will last past season 1.

Back and Better

Hey Guys,

In 2007-ish I had a dream to start blogging. I have always been an opinionated person and loved getting my thoughts out there into the world. I started a blog that was a little more then crazy rantings, well actually they were just mostly movie and comic book reviews, but they were really crazy. One day I made a huge mistake and wrote something horribly inappropriate about my past, than current job. It got back to the wrong person and I nearly got fired, because of this I decided not to blog anymore. About a year ago I decided I really wanted to be in video game journalism, I would write a blog post have my girlfriend review it and go from there. That fell flat pretty quickly because I couldn't keep up with news articles and I was basically re-reporting on and already posted articles with my own opinion added to it (plus there are like a million little video game blogs). With 2.5 (one dynamite/green hornet attempt) failed blogs and too much free time and thoughts I decided to give it one more crack. The problem was I started at a terrible time, I was moving, it was the holidays, and life fought back. Now I am officially moved into my new place. I am living with my girlfriend again, and I couldn't be happier.

With all that being said. I have a goal to start posting at least 2-3 times a week. This will be very healthy for me... at this point in my life I have left ideas of becoming a famous online journalist behind and have decided to do this for me. I am going to start transitioning away form facebook, focusing more on twitter and blogging. Since I am doing this for me I am not as concerned rather or not some one else even reads these posts, if that happens awesome, but it is no longer my goal. I mean if I get a lot of followers that would be great, its just not as important as it use to be. I am realistic, there are a million blogs and podcasts in the world, I am just one person with an opinion and a love for nerdy things. If you follow me I will love it, but if you read one post and walk away, that is cool too.
As a final note, if certain things happen I will be willing to do more with the site.

- If I get 25-50 followers I will post 5-7 times a week
- 100 followers I will seek out friends to help blog on site so more posts more often and different opinions.
- 100+ followers maybe a podcasts could be in the works
- I attend PAX and ECCC every year an would be willing to do a meet up

What else does the future hold, who knows.
