I joined Playstation Plus (Review to Come) the other day so to my surprise I received a beta invite in my email a day later. I was super excited about this because I am super excited about this game. I loved Super Smash Brothers and hate the wii. I thought I was basically going to get SSBM for PS3. Hell this was going to be perfect for me.

So I guess I should start with the preview part. The game is a battle royale of playstation Characters, wait, that sounds familiar. That is because it is a direct rip off of SSB. Its a diet fighting game where you and up to 3 other players are trying to score the highest points, or dying least, or whatever. From the looks of the trailer it looks very similar to a certain game.

The game looks fun, but I did have some time with it. Now I wont even pretend to judge the technical flaws. Those will be gone by the time the game comes out. I will judge the game itself though. I jumped in and right off the bat I felt there was something wrong. At first I couldnt put my finger on it. But I cant ell you right now. When i play SSB I primarily use the melee attacks. In this game there are 3 attack buttons, a jump button, and a special button. That is it.

I took the first 3 matches trying to feel out the attack buttons and feel comfortable about the game play. After about 5 rounds and playing through all the characters I never felt comfortable at all. I have played all of the SSB games and feel at home with any iteration of that game. With no melee attack I couldnt seem to get the attacks right. The mode we played requires you to use a super attack to shoot a player out. After the end of every round I never really understood why I lost. I dont know but I never really understood this game. I rarely feel like a noob when I jump into a game, but this one never hit home.

Overall the game does feel early, so i wouldnt not count it out yet. I did not enjoy the mechanics, but I could see the charm. I hope this game works correctly eventually, but I will same my money until it is out for a couple weeks. The Glades - Season 3: I am going to do a quick review of season 3, and I am going to try and it without a spoiler. I dont love this show, but I enjoy it enough. The show is a basic Cop procedural. Its a strangely simple show that has one thing going for it, strong characters. This show is similar to another show on the same station called Longmire (Expect the review later). Its a solid show though.

This season started with a long distant relationship and ended on a cliff hanger. I will say that I called the ending, but for some foolish reason I did not call the cliffhanger. I enjoyed the season for the most part. The acting was great and I love the little nerdy kid that works for the department. i did not like the addition of the new supervisor. She was a pointless character in the show. The entire season could have gone without her. I dont see this show going for too many more seasons, but I will enjoy it for as long as it is on. If you have seen the first season the second is now on netflix for your viewing. And this season was pretty good. Check it out.
Beer Review: Three Philosophers - Belgian Style Blend:
I want to start out by stating I am far from a regular beer reviewer. Basically I know what I like and I make my decisions solely based on that. My favorite usually is dark beer, but I enjoy a wheat and normal ales. I cant tell you about the color or density or whatever. But I will give my honest opinion about any beer i try. i took multiple pictures of this one because I planned on leaving a blogpost for this. Following you will receive a honest review and a couple of pictures. Thank you very much. Hopefully you will enjoy.
Now i have never opened up a beer that had a top like this. This looked like a top of a fine champagne. The cork was packed in there and it was protected by a wire. Its obviously aged with the 2011 printed on the top of the bottle. The glass is thick, really thick. This is kind of a glass that is to protect something special. This made me feel really good about any beer I am about to put into my body. Also this is a huge bottle. I finished it up tonight and I am kind of off my ass. It was a great start.
Like I said I far from a beer snob. I can tell you I loved the color of this beer. There wasnt a lot of foam, which was nice, and the lacing was ok or... blah blah blah. I loved the taste of the beer. There was a slight taste of sweetness, which I loved. My girlfriend also enjoyed it, which says something because she doesnt enjoy beer. The taste is lovely, the color is gorgeous, and I would suggest this beer for anyone to drink. My buddy grabbed it for me and I love and hate him for it. I love him because it was a lovely beer. I hate him because it looks expensive and I will have to drink it again.

Breaking Bad might easily be the best show on TV... possibly ever. I have never watched even a single episode of this show and not loved it. And the if you look at each season... My God what a great progression of each season. The show is amazing. I have been keeping up pretty well, but I have not been posting as much on this show.

This season has been pretty amazing. I will say that one of my favorite characters from last season is still prominent in this season. Mike was freaking badass and I am super excited that he is still around and such an important cog. Also so far Jesse has shown himself as one of the most important things to happen to this season. I am super excited to see that he is becoming more knowledgeable and more useful. There was one scene where he helped plan out what to do with the equipment that was extremely smart. I cant wait to see what they do with him in the future.

The season started out with a cryptic clip of Walt looking super crazy and getting a huge weapon. I cant wait to see what happens with that. I have some theories, but I dont know where they are heading. The long and short of it is that I love this show and this season is pretty awesome so far. I dont like Walt as much as I usually do, because he is kind of a creeper. Also his wife is a little more annoying then usual. They havent done too much with his cop brother in law but I cant imagine I will be in love with him when he finally puts the pieces together. Overall good so far.
I have been keeping up with White Collar and I have fallen behind on my TV wrap-ups. It is one of my favorite shows on TV right now so I thought I would just put it into one short-ish blog post. I will also be doing this with Breaking Bad for the same reason. I really enjoy this show but I have some opinions about the first few episodes.

Episode 1: This started out pretty good, but about 10 minutes in they had basically destroyed the ending of the last season. Season 3 ended with Neal and Mozzie running off into the sunset to never return. Where they end up they are supposedly safe from police and are well hidden. After about 10 minutes Peter concocts a plan to find Neal because a new Character is on the case to find Neal. Agent Kyle Collins, A new watch dog that has way too much power and freedom. This guy has one goal and it is to catch Neal and bring him back. He has waaay too much power and authority in a place where he should not. I didnt hate this episode, but I definitely did not love it. Things happened way too fast and there were extremely unlikely circumstances. It was super frustrating but it is what it is.

Episode 2: Was more of the same. I really hated Mekhi Phifer's character. For a higher level Agent his reach was long and he was super powerful. I could not stand it. This episode was just as bad as episode 1. Once again everything happened too fast and nothing made too much sense. Very convenient situations and a way too powerful agent. The end of the episode brings us back to New York and things are feeling similar.

Episode 3: Now we are back in New York and things feel more comfortable... oh wait except Peter is suspended from White Collar and is now working in Evidence. The episode is fun and things feel more natural. I love the guest character they bring in to be the bad guy. And its a really good episode overall.

Episode 4: This is a great episode for Neal really focuses on his abilities. Plus the end of this episode brings it all back around to what we are use to. I enjoyed this episode but any episode where Neal gets to be the focus is a good one. This is the kind of episode that makes the show worth watching.

Overview: The first 2 episodes where terrible. Plain and simple. They basically took what should have taken half the season and smashed into 2 episodes. They seemed to slow down a bit after the first 2 eps, but still so much happened so quickly. I can say that I almost hated the first 2 episodes, which is tough being that I have loved all but one episode of this series. Basically the first half of this season was spent resetting everything that changed with the end of season 3. I am not sad this happened, but it just felt a little too fast. I think they could of spread this out a bit and it would have been more enjoyable. I dont really know why this was the only option for the end of season 3, but they felt like it was. I dont know if they couldnt decide what to do after they did that or what, but we are back to where we started. Episode 4 ended with a cliffhanger that will be super interesting. I cant wait to see where this season goes. The show is still in my top 5 of shows that are currently on, but this season started rough.

I bought Torchlight forever ago, I cant remember if it was on a sale or not... but i put 40 hours into this game between two characters. The other day after beating Saints row I decided to throw it back on to prepare myself for Torchlight 2. It has been a while since I had played and i honestly have to say that I forgot how much fun it was. The game is a blast. I originally thought it would be a good place holder until Diablo 3 came out, but after playing it, I decided to just get Torchlight 2 because I love this game.

There are a couple flaws with this game that I hope they fix for the next one, but overall I love it. One glaring flaw is that the two characters I played, The Destroyer and The Alchemist, felt very similar. I started with the destroyer so I could duel wield, later I realized that the Alchemist could do the exact thing and had slightly better magic. So I started up a new character. When i started it I did not notice a difference at all. The second problem was with the level design. Every place felt exactly the same. So much so that I just kept going down and never really knew where I was. At one point I had felt like I had been going for a while and finally checked online to see how much further I had to go. I was on level 31 out of 35, but honestly I could barely tell I had gone down at all, the only reason I knew was because they had a number on each floor.

In the next game they have multiplayer, but I also hope there is a little more variety in the game and characters. I want each class to have something special they excel at, destroyer=duel wield and extra strong, but slower. The Alchemist extra good with magic, the Vanquisher very fast good with distance weapons but weaker. Stuff like that. Also I wouldnt mind the idea of diablo where you enter a new world. This helped a little with progress. You enter a new world you feel like the journey has moved along.

Overall the game is amazing and not only because it is a $15.00 game. The game is good needs a little polish, but I cant wait for the second one. I thought from the beginning the one main thing that was lacking was multiplayer. Multiplayer will make this game like 10x better right from the gate. Look forward to my review of Torchlight 2... in like a year.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-63113715860181440672012-08-04T11:13:00.001-07:002012-08-04T11:13:07.312-07:00Comic Book Wrap UpSUPER COMIC WRAP UP!!!
This week I had a pretty interesting run of comics. I wasn't sure I was going to jam through so many, but I hit a great little run and destroyed a bunch. What you have to look forward to is a big marvel run and a pretty dark Ellis book. I have one other book to read a maybe a few on hold, but I have to start to reading some real books. Hopefully this will be the last comic book post for a few weeks, but I am super weak when it comes to comics. I love reading comics. Enjoy a quick review and maybe a small preview of what I want to read.
Avengers: Vol 2 and 3 - A while back I started the heroic age of Avengers, New Avengers, and Secret Avengers. I guess I kind of forgot about them but this week I ran through four comics pretty quickly, my thoughts on Avengers. First of all the team is way too DAMN big. Who isnt an Avenger at this point, seriously. I mean I am happy in book 3 they finally pared it down, but literally Avengers have become a melting pot for all other teams. You beat up a bad guy, you are on another team, doesnt matter you are on the avengers. I didnt love these books. There is a lot going on in book 3 which was awesome, but I just didnt love the story. It just seemed I dont know a little too convenient all that happened and how powerful and quickly everything happened. There was some good but overall I can see what they are planning on doing. I will put a little more wrap up thought after the new avengers.
New Avengers: vol 2 and 3 - I want to start by saying the last run of New Avengers (Vol. 1-13 and cival war) was one of my favorite series ever. So I was super excited to get into this again. So much that I almost started getting it monthly. I literally dont buy comics monthly because of the price to enjoyment ration. But I honestly loved it that much. The problem is that once again the team is huge and just borrowing from every other team. Also there is a lot of political BS in these last two books, that drove me nuts. Oh and the bad guys are too bad and too powerful. I did not enjoy this story at all, but i am curious as to where it is going. I love the characters and i love them in this situation, I just dont love the story yet. I dont even want to blame Brian Michael Bendis, I think its Marvels fault on this one. I will cover this in a second just wanted to get it out of the way. I liked the art, didnt like the story.

Overview: I have many issues with this run of avengers and new avengers. I honestly dont think its Brian Michael Bendis's fault. I think he was put into a position where he was supposed to be a filler while they work up to Xmen Vs. Avengers. My first big beef has to do with the fact that there stories and lives are too closely intertwined. The reason I loved New Avengers before is that it wasn't The Avengers. There was a little connection and crossover but they were not the same. This one they are basically the same story crossing over in every book. So when i read volume 2 and 3 of each I kept getting confused and it didnt help that Captain America and Iron man are in both comics. Honestly this is the problem with Bendis writing both of them. The second problem deals with the bad guys they ran into. There is this huge bag guy conglomerate called Hammer. It basically takes all of the bad guys and put them into one giant team. With this came a completely... even for comics... unbelievable story line. Where Osborn basically does the exact same thing that he did in the Dark Avengers. The Dark Avengers was absolutely garbage and stupid and made no sense. This story that runs inbetween the two series follows basically the same story arc for a second time. I literally hated this part of the book and kept thinking about putting it down. The worst part was actually Osborn in both books he turned himself into a "Super adaptoid" which means he is able to take any ability of any person he touches. It was insane and the only way to take him down was to overload his circuits. It was like Osborn became super man. I hated this story arc and I hated the political bs that came from it and I realized too late I could have probably skipped both since it was all leading to Avengers v Xmen. I would suggest skipping this entire arc starting in on AVX and finishing up after that. Also I though when the heroic age started we were going to see Captain America (bucky) run the avengers, Iron man run the New avengers, and Steve Rogers run the secret Avengers. But as usual this is basically One giant Avengers and a seperate smaller Secret Avengers... Well and now when I think about it a lot of the secret avengers happen to be on the Avengers... Really lame actually I hope they fix this after AVX.

Sorry about that huge diatribe but it really bothered me. Onto the next books.

Captain America: Vol 1 and 2 - I am a huge fan of Capt. and even bigger when it is Mr. Brubaker that is writing it. I love Ed Brubaker's writing style and everything he has ever done with Captain has been gold. This story is interesting, very well written and follows a pretty... interesting story arc. In these books you get a blast from the past which is always fun, and you get to see Capt. team up with the falcon, nick fury, and Hawkeye. I love Hawkeye and it leads into a Capt. and Hawkeye team up eventually. The story is a little ridiculous and has a similar problem where the bad guy is a little too powerful. I dont like super powerful bad guys and plans that work just right, but this one was palatable. I loved this book and I am looking forward to the next run.
Black Summer: Warren Ellis - Warren Ellis is the master of crazy over the top dark ass stories. From the beginning this felt a lot like No hero and I think it might be the same artist. There feels like a small connection but nothing concrete. The story is absolutely bananas and the art is crazy. I loved this book. It started a bit slow and I didn't know if I was going to finish, but about 10 pages in I was hooked. The story was pretty interesting and a really fun read. I blasted through this book after a couple hours at work and cant suggest it enough. I love stories like this where they are small and self contained. I dont mind a decent run of 10 or so books, but most stories go on too long. Ellis mostly contains his stories within one book and i love it.
Overview: This was a pretty awesome week for comics. Very marvel heavy, but fun reads and a good way to catch up with some of my favorite characters. I didnt love my dive into avengers, which is sad, but ok. I enjoyed Captain America and I loved Black Summer. I would suggest jumping into a couple of these but skip the avengers until after the AVX run. I have a batman book to read, but I was not enjoying it so far. I might just add it to this later on.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-45137585045763892082012-07-29T09:10:00.003-07:002012-07-29T09:10:45.734-07:00Movie Previews: August

I love going to the movies so I am going to hook you guys up with some previews of some movies that are coming out this month. August is looking great if you want to watch movies. Well if you want to watch a certain type of movie. I am planning on watching all of these in theaters this summer. I cant wait to check them out. There will probably be a lot of trailers and little words.

Total Recall: This movie is coming out on August 3rd. Has a great cast starting with Colin Farrell and ending with Bryan Cranston. The movie is a remake or re-imagining of the movie from the 90's that start Arnold. It looks like a sweet looking action movie that will also be a bit of a mind trip. There wont be too much of a surprise considering the original source material, but it will be interesting and a great homage to the original.

Bourne Legacy: Jeremy Renner has become one of my favorite actors in the last couple of years. He is staring in more and more great roles from Hawkeye to a cool character in Ghost Protocal. In addition Mr. Renner you get a little bit of Ed Norton. This combined with a new Bourne series is going to make this one of the best movies of the summer. I cant wait to watch this movie and I doubt I will be disappointed.

The Campaign: This movie looks to be hilarious and could potential be the only other funny movie of the summer. I love Zack Galifianakis and Will Ferrell and its been a while since Mr. Ferrell has really done a funny movie. i feel this movie has a chance of being super funny and a little series. Quite possibly a satirical look at politics which I love anyways. I think this is going to be hilarious and worth the watch.

Expendables 2: When is saw the trailer for the first movie I almost lost my shit. Then i saw the movie and couldnt believe how much fun it was. I watched the hell out of that movie. Then i saw the trailer for the second movie and couldnt believe it. This movie has almost every action start ever minus a few amazing options that might be in the third movie. I cant wait to watch this flick and it will be amazing. Its more of the same and probably a bit crazier.

Some other movies you might want to keep an eye out for are Paranorman and Diary of a Whimpy Kid number 3. I have not heard too much of Paranorman, but it looks kind of good. I have seen the first 2 Diary movies and they are actually pretty good, not amazing but fun enough even for adults.
This week I discovered Yelp and we tried many restaurants that we had never eaten at before. I am excited to say that we had some great new experiences. We tried 3 new restaurants and was not disappointed even once. I will say that I usually dont eat out that much so i felt like I was going to die yesterday but it was totally worth it.
We had some awesome BBQ pork, Fried Chicken Cutlet, Rice, and Macaroni Salad. The place was nice looking, decent customer service and just amazing food. I dont know what it was about the food, but it filled me up very well. I dont know the last time I didnt finish a meal. It made for a great leftover also though. I would suggest for anyone and I will be going back again.
It came from a small little diner. I think its only fair to mention that I LOVE breakfast. I had the omelet on the left and my girl had the sandwich on the right. They were priced high but the amount of food received was great. One of the best breakfasts I have had in a while. I would suggest for anyone and I will be taking family members to this place. The wait wasnt long, the food was fairly priced and I cant wait to go back.
On the left we have Horchata on the right Papusa, black beans, and rice. This was an amazing dinner. Papusa is like a corn pancake with some kind of filling. I had pork and cheese. It was amazing. The place was nice the food was cheap and delicious. I will be returning sometime, but it was super greasy so not too often.
The Keg: I forgot that my girl and I went to the Keg last week for our anniversary. This was the first and only disappointing experience with Yelp. The food felt a little overpriced for what we received. The portions were huge but all of the food was a bit lackluster. It wasnt bad just a bit bland for what it was. We got a chicken and salsa cheese dip, the chips were great the dip was bland and tasted like Campbells, oh and it was a little cold in the middle. I got a steam and my girl got the prime rib. The steak was pretty awesome and decent size, the sides were terrible. I got a twice baked potato which I will never do again. I did not care for that at all. The prime rib was ok, actually a little flavorless. We both got salads, which were enormous. I would have not got an appetizer if I had known how large it was going to be, and it was super dressing heavy so I barely got to taste the salad. I would not suggest for anyone and we will probably not go back.

We will probably end up going out a couple more times in a couple weeks and I will make sure to do the same again. I dont know if I can ever really become a food blogger, but whatever I love taking pictures of what I eat.

A quick review of "The Watch" a movie staring Ben Stiller, Vince Vaughn, Jonah Hill, and Richard Ayoade (Moss from IT crowd). When the movie was originally released or rather advertised it was called Neighborhood Watch until the shooting that happened. After that they did a quick rename and a very late campaign for the movie. I saw the first trailer about a month and a half ago online, and I was pretty excited. Then I saw a second trailer and heard a pretty negative review. This made me a little less then excited about it. Last night my girl, her sister, and I went to watch this movie. It was a pretty awesome experience.

This movie was Damn funny. I laughed harder at this movie than any other this year. It was the perfect "R" rated comedy, with a great balance of swearing, inappropriate comedy, nudity, and story. The story is bananas, but really funny. The characters are what really killed it for me. Ben Stiller has not been this funny for a long time, he plays more of a straight man which was awesome, also he has a pretty deep development. Vince Vaughn plays a father with good money just looking for some guys to hang out with. He has a teenage daughter and it is awesome to see how he reacts to things. Jonah plays basically a psychopath, which was perfect. And Richard is just as funny as he is in the IT crowd. In addition to all of the main characters all of the side characters could not have been better cast. They all fit in very well and made this movie more then watchable.

I literally laughed from beginning to end and I am so glad I watched this movie. The movie was perfectly balanced and I think probably going to be the best comedy of the season. The only one that has a chance to over take it is "The Canidate". This movie proves again that if you put funny people in a movie and let them do what they do best, it will be amazing. I loved this movie.

So I am going to do a quick review without spoiling anything and then after the break I will mention my problems with the movie. Basically, do not click read more if you have not seen the movie.

I really really enjoyed the movie, I thought it was a pretty amazing ending to a trilogy... well it would have been if it did not end with such an open door. The one thing that really bothered me about this movie was the ending. The entire movie was amazing, and hell even the ending wasn't even bad, its just not the ending I wanted.

Overall the movie was damn amazing. The action was great, the story was awesome, and the actors did an incredible job. I love how characters were eluded to rather than obviously named, what I mean is Catwoman was not once called catwoman... oh yeah and she has never been hotter to me Anne Hathway really wore that suit well. Plus she did a great job as Selina Kyle. Bane was great. The only thing that killed the overall experience was the speech sound track. It just seemed a little unbalanced, and there were moments that I literally could not understand what was being said. With that aside the movie was amazing, and i am super excited to have seen it. The night before I watched the 2 previous movies and forgot how much I enjoyed them. The series was damn amazing and I could not be happier with it. (Do not click read more if you have not seen the movie. SPOILERS AHEAD)

Ok so one more final warning If you have not read the movie do not go any further.

Like I said I loved the movie but there are a couple things that left me scratching my head. I guess all of my problems revolve around the end of the movie. It seems like they left it open for a sequel to this one, but everything I have heard is that Christopher Nolan is out. With Christopher being out so is Anne Hathaway and Christian Bale. I have little to no desire to watch someone else try and run with a series that he has made so amazing. With that being said if Christopher is out I think I might be also.

The one glaring issue I had with the movie was Joseph Gordan Levitt's character. Right at the beginning I realized that they were going to use him in a weird way. The whole orphan thing felt a lot like Dick Grayson, but didnt fit the comic origin story. At the end of the movie they make a remark... "you should go by your whole name... Robin". What the hell? There is not one Robin character who has ever been named Robin. But clearly he is Dick Grayson because he gets the keys to the bat cave. Oh yeah and Batman faked his death and moved to Italy with Selina Kyle. So Batman is out of the next Batman movie. Oh yeah and they turned Wayne manner into an orphanage. As compassionate as that is, where does Bruce Wayne live when he gets back to Gotham? If I were a betting man I would assume they are heading towards a spinoff of nightwing, but how does he become nightwing without batman training. I dont know, even a day later I am still confused.

If I were DC comics/ WB studios, I would talk to Christopher Nolan and offer him whatever amount of money it takes and sign him up for a four movie deal. 1 more Batman and 3 Nightwing, or 3 more Batman at minimum. This right now is DC's only successful movie. The new superman might be ok, but its a gamble at best. Also if DC was smart they would drop this whole Justice League garbage and start making separate movies to see if they could even make that successful. With all the great bad guys available in the batman world and now with the introduction of nightwing, i am curious where they could go. Think about it, you have to keep it realistic and they have given us a realistic origin of Dick Grayson. Plus you have plenty of baddies that could still feel the realistic, Calendar Man, Penguin (as a gangster not a penguin fanatic), poison Ivy could work, a rebirth of Ra Ah Ghul, etc etc. If this is the last one, its fine I guess, but I dont like the ending at all.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-32880137103787894632012-07-21T22:55:00.002-07:002012-07-21T22:55:55.212-07:00Saints Row: The Third - Review

I picked up Saints Row: The third during the summer camp Steam sale thing. It was only $13.00 and I had heard nothing but good things about this one and the previous game. So it was a must and was actually one of the only games I was really hoping to go on sale. I dont know if I can come up with the words to describe this game but I will try. After the break you will read my review and reaction to the game.

Usually open world games and I dont get along. When i start playing those kinds of games I find myself going in every direction and never down the path that I am being led. I remember playing GTA: Vice City at my buddies house forever ago. I played for like 6 hours and didnt do even one mission. Truth be told I was a little shocked when I picked this up and started to enjoy it so quickly. After playing for a couple hours I realized that maybe my blind fear of open world game may have been misplaced. Also I realized that for all of my fear most of my favorite games are all opened world, infamous, batman, and assassins creed.

I should start by saying I have not played any of the other Saint Row games, but as far as I can tell the Saints crew are basically celebrities for being gangsters. The game starts with you robbing a bank disguised as yourself. It is absolutely ridiculous and insane, but sets the tone for what this game is. Right after the opening sequence you get to customize your character which is equally fun. I didnt actually do too much with the character creator, but its pretty intense and allows you to change basically anything in the game. Once again its insane, but can be a lot of fun.

A mission or two in you get to pimp out your car, this leads to one of my favorite scenes in the game. The video above is a similar scene to what happened in my game. I guess its a staple in the game, but for some reason it cracked me up and made me almost pee myself laughing so hard. This is a perfect example of the small features they put into the game that really makes this game amazing.

I started this game about a week ago. Everyday this week I came home and played at least 2-4 hours. This is actually really rare for me. Since my girl and I moved back into the same apartment, and I stopped living like a bachelor, now I spend most of my free time watching shows or movies with her. The last time a game that really dug into me like this was infamous 2. Basically when I wasnt playing this game I was thinking about playing this game. I was damn near addicted for the last week. The game was just plain fun. I dont know if there is really anything else to say besides that. It was a blast from start to finish. A lot of little jokes here and there. A lot of fun missions and side missions. Just plain visceral fun.

I think it needs to be said. This game is horribly inappropriate. As you can see in the picture above. There is a weapon called the penetrator. Its a huge dildo and balls attached to a handle. And there is nothing more fun then slapping some fools around with it. But there are also a couple uncomfortable moments in the game. I dont want to ruin them, but a lot of sex and fetish things. Its crazy. But everything is held with humor so it isnt too uncomfortable.

Another cool feature are the Homies. Your homies are found throughout the game and you can call them in at times... but even if you never use that feature there are many times you get to do small missions with them. It creates a fun dynamic when you have to run and gun with a partner that you cant leave behind. And you have to use them as a team mate and not let them die. If they fall you will have to save them.

Overall the game is horribly inappropriate, but I dont know the last time I played a game that was so much fun. The story is cool the side missions are unique and most are built around fun instead of bullshit collect missions. I mean there are multiple missions where your job is to cause as much destruction as you can in a certain amount of time. And there are ones where you have to get a certain amount of injury points and my god those were fun. In addition even the story missions were a lot of fun and varied a lot. One of the craziest missions revolved around a wrestling match. My god that was fun and kind of insane. The game is a lot of fun and minuses a lot of the lame stuff and seriousness of its sister game GTA.

Oh yeah, CheapyD from Cheap Ass Gamer is in the game. He is a dlc homie and its cool to see something like that.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-40168429025583757462012-07-19T09:13:00.001-07:002012-07-19T09:13:36.966-07:00Comic Books This week: almost a fail.

This has been a pretty rough week for comics. I grabbed 4 new comics from the library and I have only finished one so far. I started reading two of them and just had to stop. I finished 1 and enjoyed ok, and the other is still just sitting there. And if that wasnt bad enough. I started one at home and quickly decided it was not worth my time. So out of five comics, I stopped reading 3, only mildly enjoyed 1, and have yet to start the final one. The plus is that this is all balanced out with the reading of the last 8 issues of Walking Dead, which is always enjoyable. I will make this one pretty quick but feel free to read still in case you were interested in any of these comics.

Fell: Feral City - Lets start on a semi positive note. This is writen by Warren Ellis as are most of the books this week. Warren has an interesting writing style. Usually pretty dark, but usually very good. This has the dark and is okay, but never really hit home for me. Part of the problem is that the book contains 8 stories that are basically disconnected. Not really even a thread that runs through the entire book, just separate stories. They are fun, well written, and interesting, but without the connection its tough to really love. The best part of it though is the art. Ben Templesmith illustrates it and it is gorgeous. I love his art and it makes the series worth reading if for that alone.

2. Crecy - I knew nothing about this book except that it was written by Warren Ellis. And as I just said I usually love his stuff. As I grabbed the book and saw how thin it was I was already a bit disappointed, but if I judged a book by its size I would have never read We3 by Grant Morrison. So I jumped in thinking I could finish it before break. First its all black and white, but not like walking dead where they use different shades of gray to add color and depth. This is just black and white, so much so that the text tends to blend into the art. Not that I was missing much with the text. I was mostly bored reading this . Not much was happening and I wasnt being drawn into the world. So I stopped. Might try it again later, but probably not. With all the comics I read I just stop if I am not having fun.

3. Incorruptible: Vol 4 - I have really never latched onto this series. I have read the first 4 and have kind of enjoyed myself, but never really felt I needed to run out and read the next one. Its weird because it is based in the same world as Irredeemable, but has never really felt connected. Basically he is the opposite of Plutoman in the fact that he was a bad guy who has turned over a new leaf. My big problem with the series is even though they are in the same world, there worlds seem to be in different areas of the planet. Basically after the general destruction took place his story never seems to coincide with the story of plutoman. When I started reading I was kind of hoping for a huge crossover type event. So after reading a couple pages and still not being drawn in. I have decided to tap out.

5. Black Widow - I don't even know if there is a subtext to this title, nor do I care. I have never read a Black Widow comic before, but I thought, "she is cool as hell in movies", and I recently read a spider woman comic that I enjoyed. So i gave it a shot. I got to about the second part of the book the art had been jumping around and the timeline was all over the place, this was the point I started losing interest. The thing that made me close the book for good was when they brought pre-wolverine Logan into the mix. This is starting to become a pet peeve of mine. I mean I know he is the lamppost of Marvel and that his origin and pre-wolverine history is always in question, but do we really have to shoehorn him into literally every bodies story? This plus the lackluster story was enough to make me close the book for good.

Man this week was bleak. The one shiny moment was Walking Dead, but you will have to read my big post of the first 100 issues of walking dead if you are interested in my review about that. Also it would appear as though I am just bashing the hell out of Warren Ellis and that is not true. I did not care too much for what he offered this week for me, but I have hope for the next book. Its called Black Summer and it looks pretty awesome. It reminds be a lot of No hero and that was pretty awesome. Also he wrote one of my favorite comics ever Red. So dont read this weeks review and think he sucks, check out his good stuff. Next week for sure I will have Averngers vol. 2 and possibly Rick Remenders Venom. Plus whatever else the library produces.
Not too long ago I was hanging out with my girlfriend at her work. All the girls were in the office and they were creating their free pass list. A list of guys they would have sex with if they had a chance and would not get in trouble or feel bad about. Well I let them go on for a moment until I decided to make my list. I have recently updated this list and of course I would never have sex with any woman besides my soon to be wife, so I guess this could be my coolest girls I would love to date if I was not in a committed relationsihp.
1. Zooey Deschanel:

How could she not be on everyones list. She is just adorable. First of all she is super attractive. She has an awesome tv show. She plays instruments and is in an awesome indie band. All in all she is just a cool hipster girl wrapped up in an adorable package. I can only imagine hanging out with her all day watching corny movies. Just the perfect hipster girl.
2. Alison Brie:

This girl is pretty hot when it comes down to it. I put her on the list because she is in two great shows and plays two very different characters. My girl thinks she looks to young for me and maybe that is true, but there is something about her that just works. Also she seems like an awesome girl. I heard her on the nerdist (#20) and she was hilarious. Plus she is one of the more fun characters on Community. I dont know if she would love watching corny movies on the couch, but she would still be cool to go to clubs with or out to the movies.

3. Karen Gillan:

There are two specific things about this girl. 1. She is on Doctor who, which is awesome and actually she might be one of my favorite companions to date. 2. She is a red head. I dont know why but I have always had a special place in my heart for red heads. But in addition to all of that I have heard her on the nerdist (#109) and she seems just freaking cool. A chick I would definitely hang out with. She is funny and intelligent and just seems super cool.
4. Felicia Day:

Every nerd guy wants a nerd girl, but any nerd with real taste has no interest in the imposter nerd girlfriend. Felicia Day is total nerd. She is the girl you would have to use all of your prowless to beat at any video game or board game. She is 100% nerd and super attractive. Plus she is a red head. More to the point she just seems awesome and like Chris Hardwick has made a career out of being a nerd and having fun. She is living the dream that every little nerd boy and girl wishes they could live.
5. Jenny Wade:

The first time I saw Jenny Wade was on "The Good Guys" which was a pretty awesome show on Fox. On this show she had the cutest accent and even if that isnt her accent she is just cute as a button. I dont know what it was that made me want to put her on my list... I guess she is just adorable like Zooey. Then I heard her on nerdist (#143) and she was super funny and really down to earth. She seems like a chick I could grab a beer with and just hang out at the bar all day.
These are girls I would consider to move onto the list at some point but they just missed.
I first saw her
in one of the best episodes of Dr. Who ever. And ever since then I have
had a little crush on this girl. She is a pretty amazing actress and
seems to have some range. She has just a cute face. I dont know too much
about her by any means, but I enjoy her as an actress and she was on
freaking Doctor Who.
Mila Kunis:

What needs to be said about Mila. She is super attractive and has always been. And recently she has seemed like a cool funny girl. I mean she picks awesome movies for the most part (Black Swan, Forgetting Sarah Marshal, etc). She does seem like a cool chick, but and maybe this is because of that 70's show. She seems a little high maintenance. But I could see her on my list at one point.
Issue 100 of the Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman just hit the shelves this last Tuesday and after finishing it off I thought it might be cool to do a full recap of the first 100 issues of the series. The cool thing will be that I can do this again if they end up hitting number 200 and so it could be kind of a on going thing. In this post I will touch on a couple of my favorite moments, a general overview and review of the series as it stands, maybe a couple critiques, and what I think they should do in the future to keep it fresh. I cant imagine doing this without some spoilers. So be warned I will be spoiling everything in this blog post.

General Overview:

I still remember grabbing the first vol of Walking Dead. I bought it because I had heard good things and it was in my price point of $9.99 at Olympic Cards and Comics. (btw best comic shop around the nw). The book started off amazing with Rick in a coma to him waking up in the full blown zombie apocalypse. As I continued reading I quickly realized that no one was guaranteed safe, and that at any moment any one could end up dying. This becomes even more true as the series continues on. I have seen a many good people die. Some were annoying, some were loved and will be missed, and few were just shocking more then anything. If I can say one thing about Walking Dead, always expect the unexpected. There are barely moments to even stop and catch your breath, most of the time there is danger lurking around the next corner.

The books follows a pattern of lows and highs. Overall the series has had many high stress moments followed by a slightly less stress filled moment where the reader is able to catch his/her breath before the next stressful moment. This creates an amazing dynamic, but if I were to have one critique this might it also. As much as i love the dynamic it is almost becoming a little predictable. You know every time a moment of happiness starts up, something crazy is about to happen. Like I said its one of the best things about the book, but still you can almost see it coming. The craziest thing about the series though is that even though you hit the slow moments and that can last 3-5 issues easily, I never find myself bored, in fact quite the opposite. I can sit down with one of the 3 volume hard back books and finish in 30-40 minutes without being able to put it down. The book will grab me by the throat and force me to continue reading. It is absolutely amazing in that aspect. Its very engrossing and anyone who is on the fence about reading it needs to jump on it now.

Craziest Moments:

There is no shortage of crazy shocking moments. I am going to pick a few and maybe say a thing or two about them. Now I want to give one more giant warning. If you have not read the books and are still reading this... There are going to be HUGE SPOILERS. So dont be mad. I warned you.
1. Carl Kills Shane:

One of the quickest moment comes when Carl has to kill Shane. I mean you already knew something was going to happen, but no one saw this coming. And then you see him shoot him and man does this start Carl's slow decent in to near insanity. I was absolutely shocked when I saw this, but loved it. I really set the tone for the series and really kind of set the tone for who Carl was and was to become.

2. Cannibals

This was pretty crazy. When you saw these people you knew something was up but you didnt know what. When I realized they were cannibals I was shocked. It really felt like they bumped the intinsity and insanity of this zombie filled world to a next level. Then when they went all ape shit on them and basically murdered them in a pretty gruesome manner that was crazy. This may not have been super shocking for most, but seeing humans go to such and extreme to survive was just unexpected for me.
Lori's death:

I dont know about everyone else but this may have been the most shocking moment to me. This was one of those low moment that I was talking about earlier. Everything seemed chill and calm and happy. Lori just gave birth the prison was cleaned out for the most part and things felt right. Even when the governor and his crew had come into the mix and started the fight, i thought "the person who just had a kid was going to survive for sure". That was not the case. Lori died, the baby died. I was gobsmacked to say the least.
Glenn's Death:

I will be completely honest. Before I read issue 100 I already knew someone was going to die, I did not know who, and i could not even begin to guess whom, but I knew someone was going to die. As I made my way through the comic and I saw the events start to unfold. I would still never have guessed it would have been Glenn. This one was shocking and equally sad. I loooved Glenn. In fact before I read the issue a friend and I were talking about how much we loved him in the comic and the show. He was awesome and possibly one of my favorite characters. This... I took hard. And is easily the most shocking and saddest event to happen in the comic for me.

The FUTURE!!

100 issues of any series is a lot of issues, and its amazing to think that even after all of that I still find myself feeling an awry of emotions. The series is just that good. Now I will admit that after Glenn's death I felt extremely sad and at the same time a little numb, because this is their pattern. You get comfortable feel safe and "BAM!" someone important dies. So I think before the series gets old or stale they need to mix it up a bit. I feel that I can go with the series as it is for about another 60-80 issues before you even start to feel old or tiresome. I honestly feel that at another 100 issues you have started to do the same stories too many times and you have felt the same emotions and every starts to feel a little old. There needs to be a big change at some point and I think I have the best plan for this... Follow me if you will... down the rabbit hole of AWESOME!!!

The first panel after issue 160-180, at the end of or hell even the middle of a smaller story arc. The first shot is focused on the back of someone, they look a little familiar, but not too familiar. Dark shaggy hair, broad shoulders, etc. Over his shoulder you can see the top of a makeshift gravestone. It pans back and on the ground you see Andrea's rifle and Rick's hat and pistol. It pans back and rotates a bit as the person stands up and puts the rifle over his shoulder, the pistol in his holster, and the hat on his head, still his face is covered. The next panel he turns and you see his face and body, his face looks familiar but with an awesome eye patch. His features are something you have seen before... that is when you realize its Carl... not the child Carl, but a the Man, and you wonder "when is this?". The next panel pans a little bit further and you can see the name on the grave. "My Father Rick Grimes". Carl steps further away and it pans more. You see more graves. One says "My Step-Mother Andrea". Another says "My Friend Michonne". You then realize this is in the future, but how far? He takes a couple more steps and you see a line of graves, nameless. Then he walks up to a girl... a blonde girl with a sword... oh wait thats Michonne's katana and maybe some kind of scar, or a scarf over or face or something. It takes a second because this face is also recognizable, "but who"... And then like a distant memory you recognize her its Sophia. They embrace in a hug.... And this starts the next run of comics of the walking dead.

Oh man did you feel the chills? Just thinking about this is making me hope something like this happens. I mean we all know Carl is going to be a bad ass at some point because he has seen some shit and been through hell. I want to see a series in the future where they tell the story of the past and at the same time live in a world with less and less zombies trying to figure out what to do in this wasteland. Zombies are still a threat and the world has forever changed, but people must still go on. Its a dark world or maybe there is this weird moment of hope even though most of the population is gone forever, maybe there is a hope for a future finally. I dont know man, I just would love to see this. It doesnt even have to be that far into the future. Maybe 7-10 years. But god. This would be cool.

Conclusion:

Man I just made myself too excited. I wont be able to sleep for days. Either way I am super excited to see what they do for the next couple of issues. I can only imagine pure insanity will ensue. I hope they do get out of this ebb and flow feel, but if they don't that is also fine. I trust Mr. Kirkman on this one. He has lead me down an awesome path so far and I doubt he will disappoint.

Either way if you liked this post. Please let me know. I have been doing stuff for a couple weeks and I dont even know if anyone is reading this, and that is fine. I plan on running this no matter what. If people read its a blog. If no one reads its a journal. But honestly this has been one of my favorite things to write so far. I dont know why but I was seriously feeling this and feel really good about it. So let me know..

Bad ass is a movie staring Danny Trejo as an old Vietnam vet that basically kicks ass all over the place. The whole movie is based off a small 3 minute clip off of Youtube (video posted after the break) that features an old dude beating up some younger dude. The clip was a huge and blew up the internet for some time. The movie... well you will have to read about the movie.

As promised here is the original clip from youtube.

The clip is freaking awesome. Vietnam Tom destroys this kid for being an asshole. I mean hell the old dude even moved to the front of the bus to stop the fight and the kid just had to keep pushing. Frankly I would love to see more stuff like this where young punks get their asses handed to them. But that is another topic, lets jump into the movie.

The Youtube clip was only 3 minutes long and they made a hour and half movie out of it. So as you can imagine they had to add quite a bit of extra stuff to stretch it out that long. The movie starts out with bad ass on the bus thinking and more or less rein-acting the original bus scene. And it is exactly the same... if you replace the young kid with two neo-nazi assholes. They fight the clip goes on youtube and we have the start of the movie. It does seem to be similar up to this point, bad ass becomes a youtube celebrity and what not.

Oh wait before the fight start they give him a little of a back story... it is crazy and completely pointless. I honestly think they could have done without it, but it would probably been a much shorter movie.

Ok so overall the movie is insane. It would be tough to say its a good movie, but its something. The action is absolutely insane the story is ridiculous and the characters are nuts. The only good thing about the movie is really Danny Trejo. I dont know if I would ever watch this movie again. In fact I barely paid attention the first time. It was a fun movie but just bananas. I dont even know how they made an entire story of this clip, but they did and it probably falls under a B- movie or something. Its bad. Be prepared its not quite as funny as you would think. I mean they have a lot of old person/outdated jokes, and a weird running gag about a flash drive. I would rate it as a 2 stars probably. No more.
Franklin and Bash - Voir Dire (2.6): This show has just started to to grow on me. One of the main reasons I started watching it was that I love Kumil Nanjiani. Now I only saw a couple episodes of the first season and by all intents a purposes this show should not be that good. I mean its very cliche with the young lawyers doing what they want. The douche bag lawyer is a little obvious as the bad guy wearing all black and acting like a dick. And the old crazy lawyer who has been around forever, whenever he does or say something crazy it works out every time. This show should feel very trite and old, but it doesn't. The characters work just right and that may be because of the actors or the writing. This last episode was fun as hell for some reason and I will continue watching it until the series ends or it gets old.
Burn Notice - Under the Gun (6.4): The season has been a little slow as it builds towards a big season finale. There are many cogs at work and it has taken a little while to get them all moving. Last episode I knew that the Prison Entrepreneur would end up being more involved, and this episode supported that theory. In addition in this episode we see Becca from the previous episode pop up and start to weave herself into the group. Also proving that Anson is way to powerful, but none the less I think the end of the series is going to be huge and very inclusive. I enjoyed the heart behind this episode a lot it made everyone look human again... Oh yeah and Michael beat up a dude because he hurt is mom and that is super sweat.

Longmire - The Worst Kind of Hunter (1.6): I will gladly state this now this is probably one of my favorite shows on tv at this moment. The show is damn near perfect. The actors work well from longmire to the scared rookie. The writing is amazing and the stories are very interesting and self contained, yet there is a small thread running through the entire series. Starting last episode you start seeing a little glimpse into the past of Longmire. This episode did not show too much more of that, but we know something crazy happened, we just dont know exactly what yet. Its this little thread that will continue to keep people interested in the show. The episode as a whole was not super impressive, it was just entertaining enough to keep you watching. But they did introduce you to another new character the previous grizzled Sheriff Lucien Connally. He is just like longmire grizzled and tough as nails. He was just a guest, but I hope we see more of him.

Suits - Discovery (2.4): Since the introduction of Daniel Hardman there has been a question running through my mind of how dangerous or bad this guy is. They have painted a picture of him as being a dangerous evil person. And based on the small previous information you would think he was an evil dick, but if you look at what has been presented he seems not to be that bad. I have a feeling this is what they are going for, they want us to continually question his allegiance. Which works for me. I think it will be an interesting story to follow and since I dont know the answer yet I am excited to see where it goes. This episode did reveal a couple things and I cant wait too see where they take it. One very important and sad thing happened this episode. Through the run of the series Lewis has basically been the bad guy. A couple episodes back they showed him in a slightly brighter light. You start to see him as a good teacher that just happens to be an ass. But this episode you see Mike start to respect him and understand him a little better. Its cool because Lewis opens up and actually becomes kind of human. Unfortunately by the end of the episode you see him duck back into his shell. It was one of the coolest moments and then one of the saddest moments to happen in one episode. I am seriously digging this show and cant wait to see where it goes.
This show is definitely in the first season and they are building characters and developing traits. I do really enjoy how both partners work with each other. My one concern is the marriage counseling storyline. It was interesting at first and created a certain dynamic, but its a little over the top and is not good anymore. I love the show still and I love what is happening, I just want to see a little less counseling and more policing. The episode was kind of corny because it was like a child custody thing, but it was fun enough and you got to see some good work.
Perception - Pilot (1.0): New show from TNT the same tv station that brings you Franklin and Bash. I was curious because of the actors Eric McCormack (Will and Grace) and Rachael Leigh Cook (Abigale from psych). They are both very talented and fun to watch. I have literally just started watching and my first impression from the first 5 minutes are that it reminds a lot of Monk.... well monk plus a little more crazy. The main character is named Dr. Daniel Piece and he seems to be a teacher/author focused around Neurology. He suffers from paranoid schizophrenia and cant tell what is real at times. Man I am only minutes in and I am already feeling like jumping ship. It just feels so much like Monk and any other show put out by USA that its hard to take seriously. Wait, I just saw her jump from a second story fire escape and land on the bad guy without being hurt... nope... this is not how I usually do things, but i am pulling the rip cord. If I start hearing good things about it, I will consider jumping back in, but it is too unrealistic at this point.
I burned through season 1 of walking dead about a year ago on DVD. And this last week there was a marathon of Season 2 to get everyone excited about season 3 that airs in October. My girlfriend and I burned through this season in about 2 nights and watched the Talking dead to see a quick preview of season 3. I loved this season, there were a couple slow moments, but over all the season was great. After the break I will do a quick run down and review of the entire season with some pictures. I will keep the spoilers to a minimum, but there will be a handful of things that you will want to skip. I will try to post some kind of spoiler warning before it.

I am one of the freak people who have already read all the way through the comic book series by Robert Kirkman. After season 1 I noticed some big differences between the show and the comic. Nothing detrimental, just different. As season 2 trucked on I did notice some big differences, but once again even though they were different from the book it is still a super fun show.

Characters this season were very important. There were a couple who stood out and became some of my favorites and there were a couple that kind of faded to the back and I would be ok with them dying.

Daryl Dixon was a character in the first season that looked pretty badass but he was such a loner that it was really tough to see how cool he was. This season he really stepped out and became freakin awesome. He was one of the most essential characters for the general survival of the group and he probably showed the most emotion, even more then Laurie. He cared more for finding the little girl then any one else and took it the hardest when not finding her. His character being one of the baddest and the most emotional is amazing. Plus you see his struggle to fit in or continue to be a loner. Its probably the second most important struggle in the season. No matter what I am super excited to see what becomes of him next season. Oh yeah he also when batshit crazy for a moment as pictured to the left. He went out, got hurt, killed some zombies and took their ears, and then when coming back was mistaken for a zombie and got shot in the head. It was amazing.

This next moment will contain a spoiler do not look at if you have not watched SPOILER!!

Shane was one of the stranger characters this season. I mean according to the book he shouldn't even be there, but he has become an important character for so many reasons. He is super useful when it comes to fighting the zombies, but also super problematic because he is constantly fighting the group and Rick. He is the cause of most of the drama during the season and is also the reason they live as long as they have. I mean hell he taught Andrea how to shoot and we know how important that is. The craziest thing about him was he was such a lynch pin character this season. He really drove Rick and basically forced all of his decisions. He became one of my favorite and most hated characters at the same time. So I wasn't too disappointed when he walked Rick out into the woods to try to kill him. As you can imagine Rick ended up killing Shane. This also lead into an interesting discovery for the group and the audience discovering that anyone who dies will turn into a zombie, it is not necessary for a bite to take place. So Rick kills Shane he turns almost instantly and to bring back some continuity Carl kills Shane a second time. This was an interesting moment because it resembles the comic more or less and it kills off one of the most important characters. When this moment happen I got a feeling that there was supposed to be more, but it never really went to that further area. I dont know how to explain it, but I did feel as though it wasnt quite correct. It was awesome, but not right. My girlfriend sat through a panel at Emerald City Comic Con where Shane talked about the scene and I have to say that I think I prefer his idea vs what actually happened. It would of felt better. Either way here is the video and I cant stress enough do not watch if you do not like SPOILERS. It will give a lot away.

I will admit that their were a couple crazy moments in the season. Nothing shocked me more than two very specific shocking deaths. Since I have already spoiled the season once I do not want to do it again. If you have seen the season you know what I am talking about. The coolest thing that happened was the introduction of a new character from the books that leads into an awesome story arc that I could not be more excited for.<pictured below>

Enter Michonne!! One of my favorite most bad ass characters in the book series. You see her for only a moment with her super sharp katana and pets. I cant wait to see how they use her. This next season is going to be amazing. I suggest everyone watch it. If you have not watched season 1 and 2 make it happen. Also if you have not read the book read that.

Overall: The series is basically a different, yet similar beast as the comic. The season was amazing I was literally sitting at the edge of my seat most of the time. There were some slower moments, but because I knew where it was going I was able to stay excited. If you hated the second season, stick with it one more season, they are leading into some seriously cool areas.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-18295760179144052542012-07-14T17:54:00.000-07:002012-07-14T17:54:27.412-07:00Music: The futureI listen to a lot of music, I mean not nearly as much as I listen to podcasts, but still I love music. The other day I was thinking about some of my favorite CD's and how much I am looking forward to the next ones. I am creating a list of my favorite music and what I would love to hear from their followup release.
Mumford and Sons: Sigh No More - This CD is magical. I dont know what it is exactly but there something so beautiful about this band and their music. It sounds great, its different, and the lyrics are beautiful. As much as I love this CD from beginning to end I cant wait to see what they come up with next. I dont know how much I want them to change, I guess I want a little more of the same with maybe the addition of a piano or a lute or something crazy like that. With all that being said I love this CD and I cant wait for the next one.

Black Star - I dont listen to hip hop as much as I use to, but there is still special spot on my iphone for them. This combines the rapping skills of Mos Def and Talib Kweli. This collaboration creates a beautiful combination of hip hop. Plus this was one of my first re-introductions to hip-hop after a good long stretch of nothing but indie and alternative. Mos Def has more or less been out of the game for a couple months too, so I would love to see what they can do together again.

Young the Giant - The first time I heard this CD I was not feeling it. I dont know why but it just didnt capture me. I saw them in concert and gave it another go, now its one of the first CD's I grab when I am listening to music. I love this CD from start to finish and the songs are fun to listen too. I dont know what I expect from their next CD. I would like a little more coming from them, but they have a slightly unique sound that I would hate to lose if they tried to go to far one way or another. A slight change would be nice, but not too much. Ooh maybe a girl backup singer on a couple tracks would be a nice touch.

Ok right here I want to take a quick pause before to say that I love good alternative/indie music, but I am only human and I am not without my faults. The next two bands I am going to list are somewhat embarassing, but they must be stated. One can possibly be summed up as one of my favorite bands if only based on the number of plays the CD has received. And one is super old but I have a new found respect for him and see huge potential. So judge if you must, but I think these two picks will be interesting.

LMFAO: Sorry for Party Rocking - I will be first to admit that I am way too old to listen to this CD, and I know for all intents and purposes I should not to want to listen to this CD. Although when any song from the album comes on from these guys I freak out and start dancing. Now I dont know if Dubstep will even be around by the time the next CD comes out, but I hope they get at least one more release before the fad leaves. This CD is so much fun and every song from beginning to end. The band is absolutely ridiculous, but is fun as hell.

Justin Timberlake: Justified - So when I was a teenager I hated everything about this guy. I don't know if it was jealously or what, but I couldn't stand him. As the years have gone by he has stood out as a great actor, a great skit actor, and just a cool guy. I will also say that I do not love admitting this, but I did actually love this CD. Now I dont want to hear him come out with another dance/pop album. I know his true secret, he is a super talented musician. He can play the piano, guitar, and sing well. His next album should be something along the alternative lines. Imagine something like Jason Mraz combined with train or something like that. A pop alternative. This would be awesome.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-44873516462013092902012-07-14T07:43:00.000-07:002012-07-14T07:43:25.353-07:00Comic book wrap upHey Guys,

This might be the last comic book wrap up for a couple weeks. Maybe one more. I am planning on forcing myself to read a couple of books this summer. I will basically be switching gears a bit and moving to reading books for the next couple of weeks. I will give a preview of the books I plan on reading at the bottom of this list. This week I read some great comics, the Boys, Secret avengers, Hellboy, etc.

DMZ: Free States Rising (Vol.11): If you have not read any of the previous DMZ books I would not suggest starting here. I started this series about a year ago, it has currently finished since then. In a nutshell is basically a story about a civil war started in united states. Honestly probably one of the better series I have ever read and would suggest it for all, its get a little slow in the middle but so far has paid off very well. This book was really good, you can feel it all starting to wrap up, which is awesome. Each issue is packed with information and I love it. I cant wait to read the next 2.

Secret Avengers: Fear Itself: I usually read the main book for huge marvel story arcs, this one was kind of next in line for the secret avengers series, so I thought I would give it a go. The book was broken down into 3 separate stories following, Beast, Valkyrie, and Black Widow. If I was to be completely honest, the book isn't really worth reading. The stories are disjointed and only serve to support the main Fear Itself story arc, which was to be expected, but it was kind of boring. In fact as I started up the last story I decided to stop because they served no purpose for me. I am not disappointed because I should have just skipped it in the first place.

The Boys: The Big Ride (Vol 9): The boys is an excellent series by Garth Ennis and in typical Garth style, this book is dark... Would not suggest for kids. This book though started a little slow. I am not going to lie there was definitely a point where I thought I might not finish it. There was a turning point thought that really made this book worth reading. The main problem was that there was a lot of back story which is kind of cool, but kind of annoying also. But man when it turned good it was pretty amazing. I was not prepared to enjoy it as much as I did. I did really enjoy it though. If you have not looked into this series you need to check it out. Its very solid.

Hellboy: Seeds of Destruction (Vol 1): This series has been out forever and I am just now jumping into it. I actually have been trying to grab this for a long time and it just has not worked out. Since I struggled grabbing the first Hellboy I actually started to read Abe Sapien and BPRD. I loved both of those and decided I needed to read Hellboy. This one seems to be a part of the inspiration for the first movie. It did take a turn near the middle and stopped following that storyline. The book was great. I love Mike Mignola. His art and style are brilliant. This story was fun and very very interesting. I cant wait to check out more of this series.

So this is basically the comics for this week. I have a couple more I will be reading this week and on and off for the rest of the summer. You can expect Daredevil (Mark Waid run), Skullkickers Vol.2, and a lot of Warren Ellis.

The Books I plan on reading this week this summer are:
Bossy Pants - Tina Fey
Snow Crash - Neal Stephenson
Ancestor - Scott Sigler
Ready Player One - Ernest Cline
Nerd Do Well - Simon Pegg

I dont know if I will get to all of them and I wouldnt mind adding a couple others into the mix, maybe some neil gaiman, who knows for sure.
So of course I have a list in my head of girls I use to love (not really love of course, but thought they were hot) and how I look at them now. So here it is, this might be my only girl post ever. So enjoy it.
Scarlett Johansson use to be the love of my life. I loved this full body girl and it didnt hurt that she is actually a good actress. The problem is the same one that will repeat through this post, she lost a lot of weight it makes her face looks weird and she is using too much makeup. She is still attractive, but looks different now.
This girl was built right and super curvy. She had all the right curves in all the right places. And then she got all super skinny. I dont know if she started hanging with the Olson twins or what, but she started looking sickly. Now with all that hate put to the side, she is starting to look really attractive again, its different though she is starting to mature and look a little more like a woman.
Jessica Beil now this is one that isnt too bad. Before there was just something built right about this girl. I dont know what it was about her, but she looked good. Now she isnt even bad looking, just a little too skinny and a little too muscular. She still is super attractive, just less sexy.
Then she started to get hella crazy, super into drugs, and got dangerously skinny. This girl is nothing to me now. She was barely a blip before and is now completely off the radar. This week.I read a lot of comic books, probably too many comic books really, but this is part of what makes me...well...me. I could use a single post to write about a single comic, but I kind of like the shotgun approach I am taking with TV shows. Plus those posts would be super short. Maybe with a specifically good comic or one that isnt part of a series or long run.
Scarlett - Vol 1: I have been very hit or miss with Brian Michael Bendis, but he is world renowned and I thought I would give it a run. This is an interesting book. I am not going to pretend that its my favorite, but there are some good points about it. The story is interesting, and pretty cool at times, possibly a little pretentious at times. The art is amazing, to the point that if I meet this artist I will get a print from him. Overall a good story with one major problem in my opinion. They break the forth wall throughout the entire story. Its similar to what Deadpool does and it drives me nuts. Its a good read, pretty quick and politically charged. I would suggest it.
Moon Knight - Vol 1: This book is amazing. I have never read Moon knight before, but I can honestly say i will read it all from now on. Moon knight is basically batman for the marvel universe, he has a slight boost in speed and power when the Moon is full, I guess and he praises the God of the moon named Khonshu. He is praised through revenge or vengeance or something. Basically he fights really well and uses gadgets, like Batman, with the potential boost of energy by the moon... I guess. The main things about this series that is awesome is just plainly the writing. There is something that happens it he story that is a huge spoiler, which is hilarious and is the single thing that makes the series amazing. I cant wait to read the next book.
Uncanny X-Force - Vol 1-4: Before these books I had never read anything from Rick Rememder before these books, but I will make sure to read everything by him from now on. I read X-force by Christopher Yost last year, and I was a little underwhelmed. The Uncanny X-force series is exactly what I was expecting from Yost. The series is brutal and absolutely crazy. The characters are Psylocke, Wolverine, Fantomex, Deadpool, and Archangel. The story is nuts, the art is awesome, the fights are great. The best part is that there is a sweet storyline involving the dark universe that is really cool. And not to spill anything but a cool teaser at the end of volume 4.
Ultimate Wolverine vs Hulk: I usually hate the ultimate universe. I dont even know why, but everything I have read from that universe usually doesnt feel right to me. My boss from the past told me a bit about this story so i thought it was amazing, so when i saw it I thought it was worth a read. It is pretty cool kind of breaks a couple previously set rules, mostly with Wolverine and his adamantium. Basically there is a point where he is ripped in half and thrown a a couple miles away from his lower part of his body. I guess this metal is not as indestructible as they said it was. Overall the book is pretty awesome, with some extremely ridiculous points, but a fun read. This has not made me want to jump into the ultimate universe, but its worth reading.
Secret Avengers - Vol 2: This was written by Ed Brubaker and I love everything he writes. Plus I love avengers, steve rogers and the entire secret avengers team. This series is pretty dope and I love Prince of Orphans. This follows Shang-Chi a Kung-fu master. I love reading books about less super powers and more martial arts or normal fighters. Its the same reason I love Moon knght, Daredevil, Captain America, Bucky (winter soldier), Iron Fist, etc. The was ok, well written, cool story, and awesome characters. The one down side was the introduction of a character from Steve's past that I dont love, but it was cool enough. As usual the story ends on a cliff hanger, but it was a solid read.

Next Comic Post: I will have probably read the new daredevil vol 1, Secret avengers fear itself, Hellboy Vol. 1. Possibly Skullkickers Vol. 2. I Dont want to do less then 5 per post, but I dont know what the final book will be. Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-58551079532359571102012-07-08T11:37:00.001-07:002012-07-08T11:37:24.952-07:00Black Light Retribution and other free fps gamesThere is a new trend happening in the video game world, I would like to think it probably started with the IOS and facebook games, like Farmville, Tiny Towers, etc. Or it could have started with all of the failed MMO's, who knows... I mean someone probably does, but I dont want to do the research, what really matters is that there are a lot of free to play games entering the game world right now. In the last couple months I have tried 3 different free first person shooters (FPS) and I am going to give my honest opinion of them.

I will start with the most recent game since this is the game that made me want to write this post. Blacklight Retribution is a free to play game created by zombie studios. I dont know if they created the game with the intention of it being a free to play, but it is now. I think it went live a couple weeks ago, and I downloaded it about 3 days ago. The first day I downloaded it was the day before the 4th of July and all the servers were down. So not the best first impression, but still I tried the game.

I dont know too much about the background of the game or if there really is any story, but you start with a tutorial where you learn the basic controls. The game controls pretty well for the most part similar to Counterstrike, although it feels a little sluggish, but that could be my crappy pc. There is a camera feature that works similar as a heart beat sensor of call of duty, that can be activated anytime throughout the game as long as you have let it recharge, its called HRV (Hyper Reality Visor). Its a cool feature that allows you to plan your moves, by allowing you to see through all the walls and track your targets. It is not without its risks though, basically if you activate it you are vulnerable for a couple seconds while you turn it on and off, usually just about enough time to get shot if you realize an enemy is right around the corner. The big downside is that it makes sneaking around a little tougher, but the plus is that this probably eliminates camping. My biggest complaint with the controls are that when you press zoom in or crouch you stay in those positions until you press those buttons again, instead of press and hold. I would rather press and hold shift to zoom-in and release when i am done. Its just how I do things. Other then that the controls are ok, but this is probably the best part of the game.

The reason I downloaded this game was because I was looking for something to scratch that multiplayer fps itch I have had since I got rid of battlefield 3 and until Black Ops 2 comes out. I dont only play FPS games like I use to, but every once in a while I need to scratch that itch. With a free to play game I wasn't expecting anything amazing, but it looked cooler then most. I got in the game and the first problem I noticed was the bugginess of the game. In 2 or 3 session I have crashed 2 or 3 times already. The game overall seems a bit laggy, once again could be my crappy pc, but for sure there is about a 1 minute window when a round starts that it seems like everyone is struggling with lag. Even if they smooth out some of these wrinkles, I still have too many other problems with the game to continue to play it.

I have played a lot of FPS games in my lifetime on all systems including Xbox, Xbox 360, Playstation 2, PS3, PC, and even in an arcade. With that being said I have built up a pretty strong ability to get into almost any fps and do pretty damn good. I am not going to pretend I am the best, but I can do better then average. With all that being said I dont know what it is about this game, but I cant quite find the hit box. There have been multiple times where I was lined up on a head took 3-4 shots and missed. I have only played MW3 once and I could get on there right now and hit 10-15 kills in a single match without upgrading a gun, but in this I take a head shot and miss. Its crazy. Also I got into many exchanges with this guy running around with a knife, I see him getting hit, but I was completely unable to kill him and he would just run up and knife me, I couldnt believe how frustrated I was getting at this game.

At this point I want to talk about another free FPS game, Tribes Ascend. Tribes is a game that hit the PC world back in the 90's (I think) and was remade for the PC in the last year. The biggest difference between this game and almost any other FPS is that there is a slide and glide mechanic that changes the tempo of the game. With the mechanic the game is so fast that there is no question about campy and sniping and killing becomes second to moving. As far as I can tell the only real game mode is capture the flag. The game is fun as hell, but falls into a big trap of all FTP FPS games as far as I can tell.

My big problem with these FPS games as far as I can tell, is that there seems to be this point where if you dont pay the money you are at a huge disadvantage. Now I cant prove this, but I have noticed a couple times where it seems I am behind the curve, for example the knife guy mentioned before. I saw the perk he had and its the ability to kill a person with a single knife strike. This cant be bought, until you hit level 19 or so, but you can use zen points (real money converted into ridiculous money) to buy a perk that can be active for 1 day with each purchase for 800 zen bucks that gives you the ability to earn an extra 50% xp for that day. Now quick math, I played about 2 hours and got to level 4. If I had this perk on I could have probably been to level 6+. If I played for 1 day, with this perk, I could probably hit level 20 easily enough. This opens up just about every perk and weapon I could imagine. Now I dont know what that costs, but I could see how it would help other people. With this advantage, a free to play game is free until you are tired of being at a disadvantage and becomes a "pay for advantage game" or a "dont pay for a disadvantage game". This is my major problem.

Quick overview: Tribes Ascend is a pretty fun game for a short while, I dont remember ever feeling too disadvantaged, but I only played a couple hours and killing is only second to sliding and gliding. So far in blacklight I felt at a huge disadvantage without paying. Maybe they had played more, but it felt as though they found a way to move up, with better guns, xp boosts, etc. I dont know for sure, but I felt that. Plus the game was pretty janky, so I dont think I will be coming back.
Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8194689023770905461.post-47091640226224232912012-07-08T10:21:00.000-07:002012-07-08T10:21:30.055-07:00This week in TVTV this week.
Futurama (7.3 Decision 3012): This was a great episode. It is election time in the year 3012. Mr. Nixon is running for re-election, and the only competent candidate is losing because he isnt hip enough. This episode had many funny points, plus one of the better intros to date. The beautiful thing is that this episode kind of wrapped up how I feel about politics, very satirical and yet still extremely random. I cant wait to watch more episodes.
Bunk: Host Kurt Braunohler makes this show amazing. Its similar to Comedy Bang Bang, in this regard its basically an extended skit based around the premise of a game show. A lot of improv, a lot of jokes, and great comedian guests; Kumail Nanjiani, Dana Gould, Tom Lennon, and many many more. The show is hilarious and just to watch. It is absolutely silly, but if you can handle that kind of comedy you will love it.
Comedy Bang Bang!: Scott Aukerman is basically the godfather of podcasting, one of the first to do it and make it work properly. This show is an extension of that podcast. Its a comedy show that looks like a talk show. It has amazing guests and Reggie Watts is the music host. This show is damn hilarious and you get guests like Jon Hamm, Michael Cera, and other great comedy minds. Super silly and extremely random, but super super fun.
Common Law (1.7 Roll play): When I saw the premise of this episode I didnt think I would enjoy it, but as the episode breaks down, it actually becomes pretty amazing. The cool thing about this show is how they compliment each other and this one puts them in each other shoes which wasnt schticky as I was thinking it was going to be, but actually really good. I love this show and each week keeps getting better.
Longmire (1.5 Dog Soldier): This is easily becoming one of my favorite shows on TV. I love where this show is going and I cant wait to see more and more episodes. This episode showed us how bad ass Longmire can be and a bunch of the political stuff on the side. There is great deep story here and a cool little look into the past. We dont really know what he was doing in Denver, but damnit I am excited to find out.
Walking Dead (Season 2): There is a marathon happening as I type this. My girl and I missed season 2 and cant wait to burn through it today. The show is amazing and leads to the first episode being in black in white. This will round out my tv watching for the week.Anonymoushttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04931682482920601036noreply@blogger.com0
